Supreme Court Strikes Down D.C. Gun Ban
I have some thoughts on gun rights and gun control that I felt were worth blogging about. Let me first say that I applaud the Supreme Court for confirming that the right to bear arms is a constitutional right. It seems fairly rare that I see our government making decisions that are good for the general populace, so I’m happy to see it.
In my opinion, one of the major reasons behind this is protection from one’s own government. While it doesn’t seem very likely that someone could hold their own against law enforcement these days, the framers of the constitution had just gone through a revolution and recognized that sometimes the government needs to be changed by the people.
Secondly, every time I hear more B.S. about gun control, the media completely misses the point. Gun crimes are almost always committed with stolen or unregistered guns. Gun control laws do NOTHING to change the availability of guns to these criminals. What they do, however, is make it so that the intruder in your home has an advantage over you. What we need is tougher enforcement of gun registration and tougher punishment for violent crimes.
Anyway, that’s my two cents for today. I like to envision a future where the human race can evolve to a point where we can stop killing each other altogether. Each of us only gets one life, and each is unique to the universe. When we can all realize that and respect each other’s right to live and prosper, we will have a chance at survival.
